My name is Irina Lvovsky. I’m working as a landscape designer since 2004.

From the beginning, my first goal always was to understand what my clients preferences and inclinations are in terms of garden design, and what they don’t like.

I realized very earlier in my carrier that even if a client says he/she likes this or that, it doesn’t give me very much information about design I need to create for their future garden- design that will make them happy all the years after it’s created.

Sometimes, I heard something like : “I don’t care how it looks, I just need you to clean up this mess and plant something nice here“. I learned pretty quickly that this is never ever the truth - everyone has preferences, and if I deisgn the garden the way I like without figuring out what my client loves or hates, it will be a big disappointment for both of us.

However, to find this, to really see the “inner garden” of my client, wasn’t just a simple task of asking questions and receiving answers. In most cases, even the clients with strong preferences never had a clear picture of what they really wanted from their garden, and since this is a very visual field of work, it was very difficult to limit this questioning to the verbal descriptions only.

So, I started using pictures. I created several albums with photos of the gardens in different styles, but quickly realised that this is not enough. Then I bought a book with hundreds of pages with pictures of the gardens around the world. Then another book.

And then I realized that A - I can’t process all information I received during our meeting, and B - the meetings became too long and tiring for both me and my clients. That was the birth of Homework for the Clients.

And this is what I want to offer you here - to go through the carefully chosen pictures of my Gallery, pick up those you love and those you hate, copy them to your personal folder with your comments, see by yourself where you preferences lie, get it analyzed by me, and after some discussions, receive my professional recommendations on how your perfect garden should look, what plants you can use, how to adapt the favorite designs to your particular property.
